In our latest Retool for Enterprise article, we wrote about how On-Prem customers can directly query Retool audit logs with SQL to create a bespoke, internal app for auditing actions that have taken place in their Retool environment.
The default UI for viewing audit logs in Retool doesn’t allow users to download logs extensively, filter by specific parameters passed to API calls, or define custom filters for advanced querying, but this kind of functionality can be achieved with a bit of customization in an app like ours.
We know this can be a real pain point for large enterprises on Retool, so we created a basic Audit Log dashboard template, which you can download and use as a starting point for your own custom audit tool.
Here’s how it looks:
Key features
Live trail
The Live Trail page allows managers to see a real-time snapshot of query actions, including the timestamp, user, metadata, and query name. Since this queries the audit log database with SQL, this page can be customized to your org’s needs. This app already has a couple of features that extend the functionality of Retool’s native audit log page, such as showing more than 10 results and allowing you to save these as a CSV immediately.

Statistics and reporting
The statistics page really showcases what you can do if you create a bespoke audit log app, as it summarizes query actions across your app infrastructure with custom charts and analysis.
Using this kind of page, you could create bespoke internal apps to easily track highly sensitive queries (such as reversing payments).
